We Are The Sunset Mix

ESG - Brudenell Social Jan 18th 2014

Renee Scroggins (vocals, guitar), Leroy Glover (drums), Marie Scroggins (congas) , Nicole Nicholas (bass), Nicholas Nicholas (congas, hand percussion), Tammi (back vocals, hand percussion).
Hailing from the Bronx, ESG were formed at the start of Hip-Hop. They became the most sampled of groups ever among their contemporaries such as Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Marley Marl and Grandmaster Flash. Shortly afterwards they were adopted by the underground dance scene. ESG are indeed the only group to play at the opening night of Manchester's legendary Hacienda and the closing night of New York's equally legendary Paradise Garage where they shared the night with Larry Levan!
Originally signed to Factory Records in the UK their first album was produced by Martin Hannett and recorded at the same time as A Certain Ratio's classic To Each album. In the US they released music on New York's underground 99 Records label alongside New York's No Wave groups such as Liquid Liquid, The Bush Tetras and Konk. In the late 1980s they released the telling Sample Credits Don't Pay Our Bills. ESG have continued to release their own unique music. Their sparse, raw, percussion led sound continues to inspire and influence new generations.
ESG thanks their fans for 34 years of fantastic support.
ESG are currently releasing music on their own label, ESG Records and you can find their album “Closure” available here as well as their new single release “Watching” - Click Here

Disco Till I Die Special guest Mark Seven - The Garage Leeds Sat 21/9/13

With very special guest

plus residents

Waxwerks hosted by

Returning for our 4th Disco Till I Die after seriously great parties with Greg Wilson, Maurice Fulton and Chris Duckenfield, on Saturday the 29th of June we are very pleased indeed to be bringing one of disco's real underground heroes MARK SEVEN to The Garage for his Leeds debut......

We're big fans of this guys music, label and of course DJ'ing, so he's been on our hit list since we started the night and we're particularly excited about him playing for us....

For those of you not familiar with Mark, he is a real DJ's DJ and has massive respect from those in the know. His 'Salute to the Men of Vauxhall' mix CD set is regarded as one of the best disco mixes of it's time and he is held in very high esteem as a DJ.... A renowned crate digger, he runs the Jus Wax record store which stocks rare and collectible house/disco/balearic gems and spends a lot of his time on vinyl finding trips across the globe. Mark is also behind the excellent Parkway and Parkwest record labels, which are favourites in Waxwerks.

Don't listen to us, let the music do the talking!!

Parkway Records Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/parkway-records

Mark Seven Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/mark_seven

Jus Wax Records: http://www.juswax.com/juswax/store.asp

As always we will be transforming the Garage into a space harking back to the glory days of disco.... We encourage you to dress up to get down in your finest disco attire, or let our in-house make up artist team transform you on the night at the glamour station...... It’s not fancy dress but do dress fancy!!

£8 Tickets / £10 on the door

Disco Til' I Die - The Party Everyone is Talking About!

This is not a party about dark rooms, heads down and being at the front.
This is a party about heads up.
Hands up and being everywhere!

This is not a party where the DJ is the focus.
This is a party where YOU are the focus.

This is not a party about getting smashed , losing your mind and forgetting the night.
This is a party about losing your inhibitions, having fun and building memories.

Disco Til' I Die - A night to be reckoned with. A night to be daring. A night to remember! You are cordially invited to dress up, make up, be somebody else or even come as yourself. Leave your worries at he door (if you get manage to get past 'The JoJo'!) And lets return to the days of decadence, excess and impress!

Tom Tom Club live at The Brudenell Social Club 27.6.2013

Thu 27/06/2013
A Very Special Glastonbury Warm-Up show with...

plus special guest support

Known For Timeless Hits Such As "Genius Of Love" And "Wordy Rappinghood", Tom Tom Club Was Formed By Chris Frantz And Tina Weymouth, Founding Members Of Talking Heads.

Tom Tom Club was originally formed by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. Graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design, they moved to New York City where they founded Talking Heads as a trio with David Byrne. Chris played drums, Tina played bass and David sang and played guitar. Talking Heads took a hiatus after five years of touring internationally and four studio albums, and Chris and Tina began the Tom Tom Club.
When legendary reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry failed to show up for the scheduled recording sessions in the Bahamas, label chief Chris Blackwell allowed Chris and Tina to produce the album themselves with Jamaican engineer Steven Stanley. Tom Tom Club's first single was “Wordy Rappinghood,” an unusually original mix of schoolyard rap over a funky groove that went into the top of the charts in 17 countries. “Wordy Rappinghood” turned out to be seminal in bringing mainstream attention to the new spirit of hip-hop.
The group’s second single was the remarkable “Genius of Love.” Released in the UK before North America, the track was bubbling up in the underground with dozens of unsolicited remixes and versions--most notably, Grandmaster Flash’s "It's Nasty/Genius of Love" in 1982—a massive hit in the clubs and on the R&B and dance charts, soon earning the Tom Tom Club debut a Gold sales award. In 1995, Mariah Carey hit #1 with “Fantasy,” her version of “Genius of Love” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard rapping over the original instrumental track. “Genius of Love” continues to be frequently sampled by various artists, from Tupac Shakur to most recently, T.I. feat. Fergie and will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Tom Tom Club continues to celebrate more than thirty years as a band. Last year, they performed their timeless classic “Genius of Love” on NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” It was a flashback to one of the group’s earliest career highlights - playing the hit song on the highly popular TV show “Soul Train” back in 1983 – at a time when it was in heavy rotation on urban radio stations.
In 2002, Frantz and Weymouth were inducted at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The title track from the new album "Downtown Rockers" pays tribute to the many bands that created the downtown music scene in New York City in the 70's from The Velvet Underground to the Talking Heads. The song was mixed by Ed Stasium, who also recorded and mixed Talking Heads '77 and umpteen Ramones classics.
